ICBC

If you are injured in a motor vehicle accident in B.C. and your claim is accepted by ICBC, you are entitled to coverage called Enhanced Accident Benefit. The benefits are available to anybody in B.C. who is injured in a motor vehicle crash, no matter who is responsible. Enhanced Accident Benefits are here to support you in accessing all the medical and rehabilitation care available to you if injured in a crash, with no overall limit to the coverage available.

The most common condition associated with a MVA is whiplash caused by the sudden movement of the head/spine. When the head/spine is suddenly “whipped” beyond normal limits the muscles and ligaments supporting the spine can be overstretched or torn. Spinal discs between spinal bones can bulge, tear or rupture. Vertebrae can misalign and the spinal nerve roots can become stretched or irritated. Whiplash can produce many symptoms such as neck pain and stiffness, headaches, shoulder pain, dizziness, fatigue, numbness or tingling, jaw pain, difficulty sleeping, blurred vision and concentration issues.

With this type of injury specific chiropractic adjustments will help to normalize spinal function. In the early stages of care the primary goal is to reduce pain and restore function. The next goal is to improve flexibility followed by a strengthening program to rehabilitate damaged tissue. As the patient’s condition stabilizes, symptoms will diminish, flexibility and strength will be restored and the functional capacity of the individual will improve.

WCB

If you are injured while working and WCB accepts your claim, they will cover the cost of the health care services and supplies that are considered reasonably necessary to treat your injuries. In order for a claim to be accepted, an injured worker must report the injury to the employer and have the injury assessed by a healthcare provider. Once WCB has all the supporting documentation, they will decide if your claim is accepted or denied.

The most common causes of back injuries at work are due to improper lifting, poor posture, overexertion, medical conditions, physical and mental stress, slips and falls, excessive weight and lack of exercise. The types of workplace injuries that we most commonly diagnose and treat at Surdel Chiropractic are spinal injuries, sprains/strains, overuse injuries and concussions. Our goal is to minimize the impact of a workplace injury by alleviating the symptoms and restoring function to help you get back to work.

Note:

On approved ICBC and WCB claims, the entire cost will be covered, including x-rays. There are no patient fees. You do not need a referral for treatment with ICBC or WCB. Our office will directly bill ICBC or WCB for all services on approved claims.

1) X-rays are occasionally required with WCB and ICBC patients.
